It?s my 1 year anniversary with the gf, and I want to get her this necklace:

However, I don?t just want to get her an expensive necklace where the parts (the pearl and the diamonds) are not reflective of the price.

So, if you can judge this sort of thing, or give me some pointers on how to, I would appreciate it. Also, if you would like to provide comments on the necklace itself, if it is a good buy or if it is something you could see yourself buying or wearing, that would be helpful as well.

In my opinion, this necklace is more a fashion piece, not an investment. I suspect your girlfriend is fairly young, I wouldn?t buy this piece for someone older. I find it fairly expensive, but if it?s the look you like, that?s what you have to pay for it. The parts do not reflect the price in my opinion. The diamonds amount to 1/3 of a carat, there seem to be lots of tiny stones. They don?t say anything about the stone quality, so they are probably commercial quality. The black stones are dyed/enhanced. They are very cheap anyway. The ad doesn?t say how many points (1/3 carat equals 30 pts) are cheap black diamonds and how many are more expensive white diamonds, they cleverly leave that information out.
Cultured Freshwater pearls are inexpensive, unless they are superior quality, but there is nothing really said about the quality. I also don?t like that the pearl is simply glued in, but that is just personal preference. I don?t like glue in jewelry.
The box chain looks very thin, they don?t say how heavy or how wide the chain is and the closure ? spring ring clasp ? is the cheapest on the market (better would be lobster claw clasp etc.).

If I was going to buy this piece, I would ask a few more questions regarding quality and weight. They don?t even state a total weight for the piece. I would also like to know if this is cheap nickel white gold and then rhodium plated or if this is the better quality white gold with platinum or palladium in the alloy.

But then again, it?s a fashion piece. The price is for the look, not so much for the intrinsic value. If it is something you know your girlfriend will adore, go for it.
