Make Your Own Pizza Night. How to Make Homemade Pizza for a ...

Now that the dough-making is complete, it's time for toppings. I include popular toppings like pepperoni or olives and mix in other toppings that are more unusual. You are only limited by your imagination. The toppings won't go to waste. The leftovers can be used in pastas, sandwiches, salads or other meals. I set the toppings out on the counter and let my pizza artists create their masterpieces. I also provide a few different sauces or pizza bases. Here's a little lesson I learned the hard way with my daughter: It's best if pizza makers place their dough on a baking sheet before adding toppings. It can be difficult to transfer topping laden, uncooked dough from a plate to a baking sheet. It can be done but, believe me, you should avoid this error.

Here are some examples of pizza toppings you can use:

  • pepperoni
  • olives
  • Canadian bacon
  • pineapple
  • crumbled bacon
  • carmalized onions
  • mushrooms
  • quartered artichoke hearts
  • dates
  • grapes
  • mozzerella cheese
  • ricotta cheese
  • parmasan cheese
  • goat cheese
  • basalmic vinegar (for drizzling)

You don't always have to have marinara sauce as a base for your pizza. My family actually prefers non-marinara pizzas. Here are some options:

  • olive oil sprinkled with kosher salt
  • garlic olive oil
  • barbecue sauce
  • alfredo sauce
  • pesto

Some creations my familiy has made:

  • My son's favorite--olive oil base sprinkled with salt, ricotta cheese, mozzerella, parmesan and goat cheese. Sprinkle with crumbled bacon and drizzle with basalmic vinegar.
  • Barbecue sauce base, ham, bacon, pineapple.
  • Olive oil base sprinkled with salt, mozzerella, carmalized onions, artichoke hearts, bacon crumbles and goat cheese.
